Theatre in the Grove is proud to announce auditions for Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles by acclaimed Chicano playwright Luis Alfaro. This marks the first time our theatre has produced a work by a Latino playwright, and we see it as an important step toward sharing stories that better reflect the rich cultural diversity of our community. The production will be directed by Sophina Flores, whose perspective and leadership will help bring authenticity and care to this powerful story of immigration, identity, and resilience.

We especially encourage members of our local Latino community to audition and participate as we begin building stronger connections and creating more opportunities to share stories that reflect the experiences of our region.

ALL CAST AND CREW MEMBERS OVER 18 WILL BE BACKGROUND CHECKED.

Familiarity with Spanish is preferred but not required.

• Medea
  F 20/30s Latine – A gifted seamstress who has given up everything to bring her family from Mexico to Los Angeles. Fiercely intelligent, deeply loving, and profoundly wounded, she struggles with isolation, cultural loss, and betrayal.
• Hason
  M 30y Latine – Medea’s partner, determined to assimilate and rise in America. Charming, ambitious, and pragmatic, but also blinded by his hunger for success. His choices drive the conflict between loyalty to family and pursuit of the “American Dream.”
• Acan
  M 9-14y Latine – The young son of Medea and Hason. Innocent, playful, and the emotional heart of the family. Represents hope for the future while caught in the middle of his parents’ struggle.
• Josefina
  F 20/30s Latine – A street vendor who befriends Medea. Outspoken, practical, and warm-hearted, she represents the voice of the community. Offers humor, resilience, and perspective in contrast to Medea’s isolation.
• Armida
  F 50/60s Latine – A significant and successful contractor in the barrio, she learned how to play the game by marrying into business, and now her business is only family. She takes pride and credit for the things that she does
• Tita
  F 50/60s Latine – Worn but enduring, the servant to the house of Medea and Hason. A mother with no children, protective, constantly accused of “doing nothing” by Hason.

Theatre in the Grove se enorgullece en anunciar audiciones para Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles del reconocido dramaturgo chicano Luis Alfaro.

Esta es la primera vez que nuestro teatro produce una obra escrita por un dramaturgo latino, y lo vemos como un paso importante para compartir historias que reflejen mejor la rica diversidad cultural de nuestra comunidad. La producción será dirigida por Sophina Flores, cuya visión y liderazgo ayudarán a traer autenticidad y sensibilidad a esta poderosa historia sobre inmigración, identidad y resiliencia.

Invitamos especialmente a miembros de nuestra comunidad latina local a audicionar y participar mientras empezamos a fortalecer nuestras conexiones y crear más oportunidades para compartir historias que reflejen las experiencias de nuestra región.

PERSONAJES

Medea
Mujer, 20–30 años, latina — Una talentosa costurera que ha sacrificado todo para traer a su familia de México a Los Ángeles. Muy inteligente, profundamente amorosa y también profundamente herida. Lucha con el aislamiento, la pérdida cultural y la traición.

Hason
Hombre, alrededor de 30 años, latino — La pareja de Medea, decidido a adaptarse y progresar en Estados Unidos. Encantador, ambicioso y práctico, pero también cegado por su deseo de éxito. Sus decisiones impulsan el conflicto entre la lealtad a su familia y la búsqueda del “sueño americano”.

Acan
Niño, 9–14 años, latino — El hijo de Medea y Hason. Inocente, juguetón y el corazón emocional de la familia. Representa la esperanza para el futuro mientras queda atrapado en medio de la lucha de sus padres.

Josefina
Mujer, 20–30 años, latina — Una vendedora ambulante que se hace amiga de Medea. Directa, práctica y de buen corazón. Representa la voz de la comunidad y aporta humor, resiliencia y perspectiva frente al aislamiento de Medea.

Armida
Mujer, 50–60 años, latina — Una contratista importante y exitosa en el barrio. Aprendió cómo moverse en el negocio al casarse dentro del mundo empresarial, y ahora su negocio es completamente familiar. Se siente orgullosa de lo que ha logrado.

Tita
Mujer, 50–60 años, latina — Cansada pero resistente, trabaja como sirvienta en la casa de Medea y Hason. Una madre sin hijos, protectora, constantemente acusada por Hason de “no hacer nada”.
