Based on the holiday film that has become a Christmas tradition for generations of families, A Christmas Story: The Musical comes to Theatre in the Grove as part of our 55th Season.
Set in the 1940s in the fictional town of Hohman, Indiana, the story follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his single-minded quest for the Christmas gift he wants more than anything else: an Official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot Range Model air rifle. No matter who he asks, Ralphie is met with the same response: “You’ll shoot your eye out!”
As Christmas approaches, Ralphie launches one plan after another to convince the adults in his life that he is ready for the coveted BB gun. Along the way, audiences will encounter many of the moments that made the film a holiday classic, including Flick’s unfortunate encounter with a frozen flagpole, Ralphie’s pink bunny suit, the infamous leg lamp, schoolyard bullies Scut Farkus and Grover Dill, and a memorable Christmas dinner.
Featuring music by the team behind the Tony Award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen, A Christmas Story: The Musical expands on the beloved film while remaining faithful to the humor and heart that audiences know so well. Whether you grew up watching the movie’s annual Christmas marathon or are discovering Ralphie’s story for the first time, this musical captures the anticipation, mishaps, and family traditions that make the holiday season memorable.
Join us this holiday season and share this classic story with family and friends.
