Background
Bill Baucum
I started playing trumpet in the orchestra with Theatre in the Grove in 2015 doing Fiddler on the Roof. I love this theatre and the folks that make it all happen. After about 15 shows , I am ready to keep right on playing. Performing the music for The Wizard of Oz is like a childhood fantasy come true. I can remember waiting an entire year for the show to be aired on TV.
Cheryl Thompson-Merrill
Cheryl is a member of the Portland Wind Symphony and the Jewish Community Orchestra. She has performed with the Portland Sinfonietta and Tualatin Valley Symphony and is currently studying jazz at AJAM. Cheryl grew up in Forest Grove where she was involved in TITG as a youth performing on the stage. Over the last 15 years, she has played in many community musicals in Sherwood and Forest Grove. She played in last summer’s Little Mermaid and is delighted to be back this summer for the The Wizard of Oz.
Clare Bourquein
Clare has been a public school music teacher for 36 years. She took up playing the clarinet in the 5th grade because her name was Clare. She pursued music education through graduate school, currently teaches choir, and elementary general music, has taught clarinet and piano lessons, sung in a women’s quartet, has played in a wind symphony, loves to folk dance and compose music.
Corey Johnson
Corey can be found playing violin, viola, mandolin, and mandola all over the greater Portland metropolitan area; with local orchestras, chamber music events, with rock bands, tango accompaniment, busking, and more. But musical theatre always comes first. Wizard of Oz is his 5th production at Theatre in the Grove (Legally Blonde 2019, South Pacific 2019, Big Fish 2023, Annie 2024), and his 28th production since 2015.
Ingrid Unterseher
I’m a longtime participant in Theatre in the Grove musicals, some of my favs were Cabaret, South Pacific (two productions, 10 years apart), Chicago, Rent and Spitfire Grill. This is my first show back after several years of playing for a professional choir. I love the TITG community and how it has grown over the years and am honored to play piano in the orchestra with such a talented group of musicians. I want to give a shout out to Alicia Barrett for her excellent direction – she is one talented musician and director!
Mo Hogan-Chenoweth
Mo is thrilled to be part of the pit orchestra for The Wizard of Oz., She has come back to music after some years away and it has been the best thing. This is her first pit orchestra experience with Theater in the Grove, and she is very excited to help bring the show to life from behind the scenes. She would love to thank Alicia for being a wonderful director and the rest of the orchestra for welcoming her to this amazing group!
